Display system / exhibit design

Background:

The Product Design school at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) was having their end of year show. In order for students to display their work, a simple, low cost system was required which utilised the materials and equipment available in their workshop at the time.

Problems and opportunities:

1. The exhibit needed to be designed, fabricated and installed within one week.

2. Plywood off-cuts were available from previous student projects and laser cutting facilites were on hand for accurate, repeat cutting.

3. The exhibit needed to display 20 A0 poster presentations of student work.

Key question:

How can student work be presented in a way that utilises space, saves money and engages viewers?

Final proposal included:

1. Laser cut, plywood trestles including a simple hinge mechanism for easy set up and take down.

2. Angled profile for stability and easy viewing of project work.

3. Layout which utilised open space and encouraged interaction among students, faculty and guests.
